A group of disadvantaged youths gathered at SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville, voicing their struggles with drugs and life on the streets. They appealed for rehabilitation, education, and opportunities to rebuild their lives, calling on government and society for urgent support.
Paynesville, Liberia – A group of disadvantaged youths gathered this week at the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Sports Complex in Paynesville, raising their voices in desperation but also in hope.
The young people, many of whom have struggled with drug addiction and life on the streets, said they are “tired of drugs, tired of pain, and tired of the streets.” With broken hearts but renewed determination, they cried out for a chance to transform their lives.
Their gathering at SKD served not only as a cry for help but also as a call to action for government, community leaders, and civil society to step in with programs that provide rehabilitation, education, and opportunities for reintegration into society.
The youths emphasized that while their past has been marked by hardship, they remain hopeful that with the right support, they can rebuild their futures and become productive members of society.
Observers say the rally highlights the growing challenge of drug abuse and youth vulnerability in Liberia, as well as the urgent need for inclusive policies under the government’s ARREST Agenda and other national development plans.
