JFK Medical Center Gets New Generators to End Power Outages
JFK Medical Center has received two new generators, 800 KVA and 650 KVA, from China to end frequent power outages. The upgrade ensures reliable electricity for patient care, surgeries, and hospital safety.
Monrovia – The John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFK), Liberia’s biggest hospital, has improved its electricity supply with two new high-capacity generators—an 800 KVA and a 650 KVA. These units aim to stop the frequent power outages that have long affected patient care.
Procurement Director Telewoda Kennedy said the purchase from the People’s Republic of China is “a major relief,” adding that the package includes spare parts for one year of maintenance. Both generators have automatic switch systems that will ensure constant power for surgeries and other critical medical services.
Hospital operators said JFK had been relying on two old generators (250 KVA and 300 KVA) donated years ago by the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL).
CEO Dr. Linda A. Birch praised the upgrade, saying the new generators will improve service delivery and keep the hospital running smoothly even during national grid failures. She noted that reliable electricity is essential for critical care and hospital safety
